BAT HOUSE BUILDING & PAINTING WORKSHOP
Bat House Building & Painting Workshop (This event is SOLD OUT!)
Join us On October 24th, at Art Center, to build and paint your very own bat house!
You might wonder why you need to build a bat house. Why can't the bats just find a nice tree? That is the challenge for many bat species as forests are cleared. Ideally they would live in a natural home but we build bat houses to help those who can't find space in a forest.
Did you know?
According to Bat Conservation International, one little brown bat can eat 60 medium-sized moths or over 1,000 mosquito-sized insects in one night!
In many ecosystems, they play a key role in pollinating plants.
These are just a few of the reasons why you should come paint a bat house (using eastern white pine) and learn about why bats are important to our ecosystem from local naturalist, Payton Carroll.
Payton will begin the evening with a presentation about the important impact that bats have on our ecosystem, and share how building bat houses can make a difference. Payton has worked as a naturalist for the Appalachian Mountain Club and as an intern with the DEC. In addition to your hand-crafted bat house, you are sure to leave with many fun bat facts!
Space is limited. All participants must pre-register.
