Home School Programs
Our homeschool programs are designed to provide an enriching, educational, arts-focused opportunity for children. We encourage learners to explore their curiosities, while experimenting with a wide range of processes, and developing new skills. Experienced art educators facilitate each session, in a studio environment, with a focus on constructive, hands-on learning.

The cost is $125 when you are registering only one child.
If you are registering more than one child from your household (for any program in the same session) the cost is $115 for each.
MONDAYS:
Jewelry Making In this class you will create unique earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Using wire, beading and charms, you will design and make beautiful sets, and learn a variety of techniques.

Art Alive This class brings art history to life through hands-on artworks! Each week we will look at a different style of art and artists, and create a variety of pieces inspired by the work. Students will gain an understanding of different artistic movements, and learn how to pick up on contextual clues when looking at artwork. We will have so much fun traveling through history and experimenting with materials.

Art Explorers will investigate a range of concepts, through mixed-media activities, designed to inspire self-directed learning.

TUESDAYS:
Art Inventors Young artists are invited to a fun, hands-on studio style art class! Students will have the opportunity to use a variety of art materials and learn new techniques. We will be drawing, painting, and constructing different thematic pieces each week. Kaitlin uses in-progress critique to guide young artists in the reflective process if artmaking.

Drawing Explorations (daytime) This is a drawing class will combine technical development, observation and self expression. The goal is to learn how to improve observational skills, while finding your own voice as an artist. There will opportunities to explore the use of a variety of materials, such as graphite pencil, charcoal and pastel.

Expressive Painting This painting class will involve experimentation with a variety of techniques and explore a range of subject matter. The approach will be closely related to the fauve style of art, which emphasizes painterly qualities and strong color over the representational or realistic values.

WEDNESDAYS:
Independent Study (daytime): This is a new offering for artists who would like to create independently driven projects, with guidance from a professional artist/teacher. Participants come with an idea, and the instructor is there to assist with the entire process from material selection and design, to the execution of the project. The first meeting will involve sharing, planning, and design, while the rest of the meetings will involve working studio time. This class is perfect for teens and adults that wish to work in a supportive, studio environment, with access to a variety of art materials.

Faces & Figures Faces & Figures will introduce participants to the study of the human form. We will learn about proportion, sight lines, and other tools artist’s used to capture the figure accurately.
Participants will explore a variety of drawing techniques and build on their artistic vocabulary. This is the perfect opportunity for those who want to understand how to capture gestures and human expression!

THURSDAYS:
Introduction to Claymation & Stop Motion Come learn the ins and outs of animation through an entirely interactive class! We will explore everything from designing and fleshing out clay characters, scene design and construction, story development, and post production editing. Each participant will create their own short, and gain a better understanding of this classic, frame-by-frame animation style.

Watercolor for Teens is a new class where students will learn different techniques using watercolor paint such as wet on wet, wet on dry, scrumbling, stippling and wax resist. This class is for teens only.

Graphic Storytelling and Illustration This is a great opportunity for young illustrators and writers to turn their stories and doodles into an actual comic book of short graphic novel! Participants will create their very own graphic novel or comic strip from start to finish! This class will explore creative writing, story boarding, illustration, bookbinding and more! Students will learn a variety of basic illustration techniques including character design, backgrounds, and comic effects, and will end by designing their covers and binding their finished novels.

FRIDAYS:
Dreaming of Dragons Do you like Dragons? Ever want to make dragon artwork? Then this is the class for you! In this class students will be using different media to create dragons such as paint, modeling clay and 3D objects.

3D Printing (daytime) In this class we will learn the basics of 3-D printing by learning how to create forms on an iPad and then sending them to the 3-D printer in the graphics lab. Students will develop their design and observation skills, through this exciting method of 3-D design. Students will be so proud to bring home the small figures and gadgets, that they have designed and created!

Introduction to Digital Media and Graphic Design (daytime) This is the perfect class for students who wish to gain experience in the fundamentals of computer graphics and digital media. Participants will learn how to navigate Adobe Photoshop in our iMac lab, along with personal guidance from the instructor.

SATURDAYS:
Saturday Morning Makers Join your friends at Art Center every Saturday, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am for our Saturday Morning Makers! This is a relaxed art experience for young artists. We provide a wide variety of materials and a different theme each week for inspiration. All you have to do is show up and have fun creating!
Recommended age range: 5-10 years

Payment and Refund Policy:
Studio classes usually must have a minimum of 5 participants in order to run as scheduled. A full refund will be given if a class is cancelled.
Full payment for programs, workshops, clubs, group lessons, and events are expected to be made to Art Center of Rochester LLC prior to the start date.
Participants will not be considered registered until all of the necessary paperwork and payments have been made.
Registration and supply fees are non-refundable.
Refunds will be granted, in full, up to one week before the program start date.
A 50% refund will be granted throughout the week before, and up to the day before, the program start date.
After the start date, we will not offer refunds for any programs or events.
